Even better, and far simpler, is to learn the discipline to never respond in haste. There is rarely any email that requires a response within hours, and if a subject is important or emotional then it requires even more time.

Compose the email, save it in "Drafts" and review / rewrite it the next day. If it requires a total rewrite then leave it another day.
